Pen name: Cassandra
My name is Cassandra and I'm currently studying psychology. I used to write a lot in high school but hadn't found a reason to 'pick up a pen' in a sense until this competition theme intrigued me.
I wrote this piece because it's been a habit since I was young to describe certain parts of life in metaphors and other examples, it just makes it more interesting to understand and helps bring perspective into an individual's point of view. Community is such a staple in our lives, especially in a country that has such a collectivistic culture like Malaysia. Still, while it is important and common, some people may face hardships while trying to build and maintain a good community. My hope in writing this piece was to show that it's ok not to get everything right the first time, and not to give up looking for community and people who will understand you. Additionally, if things are growing toxic, letting go is better than holding on, and I hope this piece serves as a reminder that the people who care for you will show you, that people who care for you will communicate. I truly hope everyone finds the chance to find those people.
